Current Projects

Field House, Fields Corner, Dorchester, MA.

Through observing physical evidence on the building and decoding insurance map and other historical data and photographs, HBI has determined that this much-altered (and once-moved) Federal Period building was built by Isaac Newcomb Field in about 1795 as a homestead and location of a family currying business.

A recently found 1901 genealogy of the Field Family has confirmed this theory and describes how the location of the Field’s house at the crossroads of Adams Street and the Dorchester Turnpike, along with the important business operation that they carried on there in the 19th century, led to the area being named Fields Corner.

HBI is exploring ways that this important building, now physically linked to the former O’Hearn Storage Building complex, can be rehabilitated, reused, and protected along with the rest of the site.
