1510 - 1514 Dorchester Ave., Fields Corner, Dorchester, MA.

1510-1514 Dorchester Avenue is a highly visible, two-story commercial block in Fields Corner. Built in the mid 1890s, it has been highly altered, most notably through haphazard changes to its storefronts and the application of metal siding to its second floor. Surviving architectural elements, such as its wooden cornice, and other architectural details glimpsed in historic photos, hint at its potential to contribute once again to the local character of the neighborhood.

HBI has developed a façade project to completely rehabilitate four storefronts on the ground floor as well as the windows, siding, and other architectural features of the second floor, which is home to an important neighborhood social service program. The work is inspired by historic evidence and specifies using modern materials with a traditional appearance that are durable, easy to maintain, and energy efficient.

HBI will serve as a major lender to this $260,000 rehabilitation project and will manage the project on behalf of the owner. The work will also be supported by a substantial grant from the City of Boston’s Restore Program.
