The Hayden Building, (Richardsonian Romanesque -1875)
681-687 Washington Street, Chinatown (1993-present).
This is the last surviving H.H. Richardson commercial building. It was built in 1875.
HBI bought the building and its neighbor in 1993. By providing structural stabilization, rehabilitating the exterior, and creating retail spaces, HBI turned what had become an adult entertainment site into a Liberty Bank branch and Penang, Boston's first Malaysian restaurant and now a popular destination.
HBI has since sold the Penang building to help finance the redevelopment of the Hayden Building into four loft style apartments.
