Historic Boston occasionally has openings for qualified candidates skilled in preservation based development. Please check here regularly for updates.

Historic Boston also offers volunteer internships to high school and college students who want to learn more about preservation. These internships provide an opportunity for students to be involved in research and ongoing rehabilitation projects around the city.

Director of Real Estate Development

HBI seeks a dynamic and experienced real estate professional to serve as Director of Real Estate Development and lead development activities for the organization. Reporting directly to, and working closely with HBI’s Executive Director, this position will direct all real estate development work for the organization and manage a talented team of project managers. Responsibilities include strategically driving the direction of HBI’s development activities as well as providing day to day management of staff and projects with regard to identification of properties, finance, construction and the selling or leasing of properties. This position requires strong real estate knowledge, exceptional financial analysis skills, and a genuine commitment to the mission of rehabilitating historic buildings in Boston’s neighborhoods as a strategy for community revitalization.

Grants Manager

Historic Boston Incorporated (HBI) seeks an experienced Grants Manager to identify and cultivate prospective donors, develop grant proposals, and collaborate with the staff and board of HBI to align programs with donor interests. Five or more years of grants experience required. The organization will consider candidates who can successfully demonstrate fundraising successes, flawless attention to detail, a flexible, proactive and positive approach to work, and superb interpersonal and written communication skills.

Historic Boston's Casebooks
Historic Boston's 1999 Preservation Revolving Fund Casebook identified 40 properties in Boston whose future was uncertain and recommended strategies for their preservation that could guide action by HBI as well as others. While many have been addressed, several remain seriously threatened.

Historic Boston's Religious Properties
Preservation: A Boston Casebook, published in 1991, deals specifically with buildings built for worship. It targets twenty-nine religious properties that are significant to the architectural and social history of the City of Boston. At the time of publication, each of the twenty-nine properties had uncertain futures.
